Can We Normalize Not Waiting Until We Love Our Bodies?

Most women don't hesitate because they don't want boudoir photos.

They hesitate because they think boudoir is for other women.

The women who have always been confident.

The women who know how to pose.

The women who never worry about their stomach, their arms, their thighs, or the way they smile.

The women who effortlessly throw on lingerie and somehow look like they belong on the cover of a magazine.

Somewhere along the way, we've convinced ourselves that boudoir is the reward you earn after you've changed your body.

Lose the weight.

Tone your arms.

Get through the wedding stress.

Maybe after summer.

Maybe after the holidays.

Maybe after one more diet.

Maybe after...

But "after" has a funny way of turning into years.

Every week, I photograph women who tell me they almost cancelled.

"I almost waited."

"I almost rescheduled."

"I wanted to lose another ten pounds first."

"I almost talked myself out of it."

And do you know what I've never heard after they've seen their gallery?

"I really should've waited until I lost that extra ten pounds."

Not once. Instead, I hear things like:

"I can't believe that's me."

"I wish I would've done this sooner."

"Why have I been so hard on myself?

I don't have a magic camera. I can't Photoshop confidence into someone. What I can do is create an environment where you stop worrying about what your stomach looks like for five minutes and start having fun. Funny enough, that's usually when the best photos happen.

1. Because "When I Lose Weight" Is a Finish Line That Keeps Moving

You tell yourself, "I just need to lose 10 pounds, and then I'll book."

But what happens when you lose those 10 pounds?

"Well... if I could just lose 10 more."

And then another 10.

Before you know it, months—or even years—have passed, and you're still waiting for a version of yourself that always seems to be just out of reach.

The truth is, body image doesn't magically change when the number on the scale does.

As someone who has been both 130 pounds and 250 pounds, I can tell you this: I've had days where I felt incredible at my heaviest, and I've had days where I picked myself apart at my lightest. Confidence has never been something I found in a clothing size.

If you've been waiting until you feel "ready," I want you to ask yourself a question:

What if ready isn't a number?

I can't promise that you'll walk out of my studio suddenly loving every inch of yourself. That's not a promise anyone should make.

But I can promise this: I'll show you the version of yourself that everyone else already sees.

I'll fix your hair when it falls out of place. I'll tell you exactly how to pose. I'll celebrate every little win, and yes, I'll hype you up in ways you didn't know you needed.

Because every body is a boudoir body.

Not because every body looks the same.

Because every woman deserves to see herself with a little more grace than she gives herself in the mirror every morning.

2. You're Not Paying for Pretty Pictures. You're Borrowing Someone Else's Eyes for a Day.

My favorite thing about boudoir has nothing to do with lingerie. Or posing. Or even the photos themselves.

It's the moment when I turn the camera around and hear...

"Wait... that's actually me?"

Yep. That's you.

The funny thing is, I didn't magically make you prettier. I didn't wave a wand. I didn't Photoshop you into a different person.

What I show you in your photos is literally what you already look like.

The version your fiancé sees. The version your best friend sees. The version strangers see when you smile at them.

The only person who usually doesn't see her... is you.

We're so used to standing in front of the mirror picking ourselves apart that we stop seeing the whole picture. We notice the stomach. The arms. The skin. The cellulite. The tiny things that nobody else would've noticed if we hadn't pointed them out.

But a photograph has a funny way of quieting all that noise. Suddenly, you're not looking at the things you've spent years criticizing. You're looking at a woman who looks confident. Beautiful. Soft. Strong.

And then it hits you.

"Oh... that's really me."

Are the pictures pretty? Obviously.

Are you prettier? Undoubtedly.

That's always been my favorite part of the entire experience, not creating a version of you that doesn't exist, but introducing you to the one who has been there all along..

3. Your Wedding Isn't the Only Chapter Worth Remembering

Let me say it again, a little louder this time.

Your wedding isn't the only chapter worth remembering.

You'll spend months—maybe even years—planning one incredible day.

You'll hire photographers (hi 👋), pick the perfect venue, obsess over flowers, taste cake, argue over seating charts, and spend thousands making sure every moment is documented.

As you should. Your wedding deserves to be remembered.

But... what about the chapter before it?

The season where you're counting down the days. The late-night Pinterest scrolling. The group chats with your bridesmaids. The excitement every time someone calls you "the bride." The anticipation. The butterflies. The version of you that's standing on the edge of one of the biggest moments of your life.

Why shouldn't she be celebrated, too?

A bridal boudoir session isn't replacing your wedding photos.

It's preserving the chapter that comes before them.

The chapter where you're still a fiancée.

Where you're dreaming about the future, but you're still becoming the woman who's about to walk down the aisle.

Life moves fast.

Faster than any of us realize.

One day you'll look back at your wedding photos and remember your wedding day.

But your boudoir photos?

They'll remind you of the woman you were before you said, "I do."

And I think she deserves to be remembered, too.

4. You're Allowed to Do Something That Doesn't Need to Be Practical

Can I ask you something?

When was the last time you spent money on yourself without trying to justify it?

Seriously.

We don't ask men to justify buying another fishing rod, golf club, or whatever expensive hobby they've convinced themselves is "an investment."

But women?

We somehow feel guilty spending money on an experience we'll remember for the rest of our lives.

Somewhere along the way, women became experts at explaining why they're "allowed" to buy something.

"It's for the wedding."

"It's a gift for my fiancé."

"I've been working really hard."

"I never do things for myself."

We turn every purchase into a courtroom case where we have to prove it's practical enough to deserve it.

But...

What if "because I want to" was enough?

What if you didn't have to earn the experience?

What if it didn't need to be a wedding gift?

Or an anniversary surprise.

Or a reward for losing weight.

Or a celebration after you hit some imaginary milestone.

What if the only reason you booked a boudoir session was because...

You wanted to.

That's it.

No explanation.

No guilt.

No justification.

Just because you wanted an experience that made you feel beautiful.

And honestly?

I think that's reason enough.

5. Future You Is Going to Be Kinder Than Present You

Can I tell you something I've noticed?

The women sitting in my studio are usually focused on all the things they wish they could change.

"My stomach."

"My arms."

"My stretch marks."

"My thighs."

But the women looking back at old photos years later?

They almost never talk about those things.

Instead, they say things like...

"I can't believe how young I looked."

"Look how happy I was."

"I forgot what that season of life felt like."

Funny how that works, isn't it?

The things that consume us today somehow become the things we barely notice tomorrow.

Instead of criticizing ourselves, we start appreciating the memories.

The version of ourselves we were so busy trying to "fix."

The truth is, future you is probably going to look at these photos with far more kindness than present you ever could.

She isn't going to zoom in on your stomach.

She's going to remember how excited she was to marry her best friend.

She'll remember planning a wedding.

She'll remember the anticipation.

She'll remember who she was before life changed again.

Photographs have a funny way of reminding us what actually mattered.

Not whether we had visible cellulite.

Not whether our arms were perfectly toned.

Not whether we lost those "last ten pounds."

Just... us.

Exactly as we were.

So maybe stop asking yourself,

"Will I wish I looked different?"

And start asking,

"Will I wish I had these?"

Because if there's one thing I've learned as both a photographer and a human...

It's that we're almost always kinder to yesterday's version of ourselves than today's.

Maybe it's time we stopped making her wait.

If you've made it this far, I'm willing to bet you've seen a little bit of yourself somewhere in this blog.

Maybe you're waiting until you lose the weight. Maybe you're convinced you're "too awkward." Maybe you've been telling yourself you'll book someday.

I hope you'll stop waiting for someday.

You don't have to show up confident. You don't have to know how to pose. You don't have to be at your goal weight. You just have to show up exactly as you are.

I'll take care of the rest.

If you're ready to celebrate this chapter—the one before the vows, before the last name changes, before life moves into its next season—I would be honored to help you preserve it. Because this version of you deserves to be remembered, too.

Ready when you are. 🤍
